Advice & Advocacy
What is Case Advocacy?
Case Advocacy is sometimes called Crisis Advocacy.
'Advocacy' means 'to speak up for someone'
Decisions are often made for people with learning disabilities by people who sometimes cannot really make an objective decision. For example by a person's Social Worker, Support Worker or a family member.
Having an Advocate can be a useful way of ensuring that someone independent is involved, someone who is only accountable to the person with learning disabilities in question.
Short Term Advocacy involves an Advocate supporting the individual regarding a specific issue, for example, supporting someone to put in a complaint.
The individual receives support from the Advocate for the duration of the objective in question.
